There is something quietly powerful about a mind trained in science choosing poetry as its medium of expression. Dr. Ashutosh Sharma’s debut Hindi poetry collection “उलझे से धागे” stands as a thoughtful bridge between analytical precision and emotional depth, offering readers a reflective journey through the complexities of human life.
At its core, “उलझे से धागे” is a collection of twenty-one poems that explore the subtle yet persistent entanglements of thoughts, aspirations, human capabilities, and their interaction with the natural world. The title itself becomes a metaphor for life’s intricate knots, those moments where overexertion tightens the problem, but patience and gentle effort slowly begin to unravel it. What this really means is simple but profound: not every complication demands force, some require time, stillness, and understanding.
Dr. Sharma’s transition into poetry is rooted in a deeply personal realization. As a teacher and researcher, his written work was largely confined to the scientific community. Yet poetry offered him something different, a direct and human connection with society. Encouraged by friends who appreciated his Hindi verses, he found the confidence to shape his thoughts into a literary form that speaks beyond academia.
What sets this collection apart is the author’s unique lens. A botanist by profession, Dr. Sharma brings an organic sensitivity to his writing. His poems are not just expressions of emotion, they reflect patterns, relationships, and observations that echo the natural systems he studies. This interplay between science and poetry creates a voice that feels both grounded and introspective.
His literary achievement is further underscored by recognition such as the 21st Century Emily Dickinson Award for this book, affirming its resonance and impact.
Beyond poetry, Dr. Ashutosh Sharma’s academic and research credentials are extensive. Holding qualifications including M.Sc., M.Phil., PGDAEM, and Ph.D., he specializes in Plant Sciences, with a focus on plant-microbe interactions, biotechnology, and stress biology. His academic journey includes clearing highly competitive examinations such as GATE Life Sciences, CSIR-UGC NET, and ICAR-NET, alongside contributing over 140 publications across reputed international platforms.
His contributions extend into authorship and editorial work, with multiple books to his credit, as well as significant research achievements including GenBank submissions, MTCC contributions, and funded research projects from prestigious bodies like DST-SERB and CSIR. Currently serving in the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at DAV University, he brings over thirteen years of teaching experience across undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels.
Despite such a deeply rooted scientific career, “उलझे से धागे” reveals another dimension of his identity, one that is reflective, observant, and deeply human.
This collection does not attempt to provide answers. Instead, it invites readers to sit with their own complexities, to acknowledge the knots, and perhaps begin the process of gently untangling them.
